Self‐Guided Growth of Electronically Decoupled C <sub>60</sub> on Graphene on Rh(110)

The authors report on the behavior of C60 molecules adsorbed graphene (Gr) monolayers grown Rh(110), studied by means scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy under ultra-high vacuum conditions. Fullerene form a well-ordered close packed hexagonal layout with an intermolecular distance ≈1 nm. As demonstrated from experimental data, molecular packing direction is locally to being aligned quasi-1D moiré patterns formed metal support. Moreover, for certain orientations underlying pattern appears superimposed assembly. However, analysis highest occupied orbital lowest unoccupied structures differential conductance curves Gr/Rh(110) suggest weak molecule–substrate interaction, similar other 2D material/metal interfaces. All these observations can imply that play central role in arrangement C60, but without modifying its electronic properties, which makes this system singular platform adsorption. Complementarily, structural properties multilayer growth are also investigated.
